First exhibition of 2024

Following my successful exhibition with Studio Vault in 2022 I will be returning later this month with a new collection, just in time for when Emily moves into her larger gallery space.

To celebrate the launch of this collection I have had a limited edition of Tumultuous (pictured) printed which will be available from the start of the exhibition.

New collection

New collection

Over the last couple of months I have been working on a new collection of work for the Hope Gallery in Hebden Bridge. There was a clear brief to create some bright pieces for her gallery. As a painter who leans more towards the darker side of the colour range I did wonder whether I would be able to pull this off, especially as it was the middle of winter and quite frankly I do like my clouds of doom!

Bruised Sky - Latest in the God's Own series

Lockdown for me meant very little painting... in fact almost no painting at all for 3 months. So when I eventually got round to thinking about doing something this painting literally fell out of my head!
Scaling up

Scaling up

I have absolutely loved being back in the studio painting and this time I have been experimenting with scale and surface. For the last 3 years I have been mainly painting with cold wax on a smaller scale and on paper. I love working on the paper but you can only scale up so far with work that has to be behind glass, unless of course you fix the paper to the board and well I know that will just go terribly wrong for me.

Saltaire Arts Trail Sneak Peek

Here is a sneaky peek of some of my new work which will be on show for the first time at the Saltaire Arts Trail. This is only a sample of the work so do make sure you get along to the Arts trail to see the full collection.

As if the day...

As if the day...

My time for painting is very limited so when I do get a couple of days completely free I like to scale up and let loose on a large pieces of Arches paper.

I'm not really sure where the inspiration for this painting came from other than the dark autumnal colours; it isn't a scene that I recognise. Sometimes a painting just comes about because of the colours that I want to use and I was really wanting to create a large scale imposing clouds scene.
