Workshop with the Guiseley Art Club

I had such a lovely time over the Bank Holiday weekend with the Guiseley Art Club who invited me to run a one day workshop for them on using oils with cold wax.

The work they produced in such a short period of time was fantastic and to top it off they also created this wonderful video of the day.

The Letterbox series...?

Is it a series? Well I seem to be creating quite a number of pieces lately using this format but also using the metallic powders. It is starting to be a fairly significant body of work that I have decided to hold on to them for now with the idea of exhibiting them all together at an exhibition towards the end of the year.

I happened to fold a piece of Arches paper by the long length and have found this letterbox shape much more pleasing for the ideas I am currently working on.

Handmade cards

There are times however where I like to take a big sheet of Arches paper and just mess around with oil colour, dry pigments, glazes, experimenting with tools to see what textures they can make. It's all a bit of fun really and an opportunity for me to just go a little crazy and not worry about the mess I am making or about trying to resolve into a painting.

The Sculpture Lounge

Earlier this year I received an invitation to be part of a Fringe Event as part of the Holmfirth ArtWeek. The event itself was hosted by the Sculpture Lounge which is a huge mill in Holmbridge which has been converted into artists studios.

Gold....!

I am always looking for bold splashes of colour to help make a painting pop. I can do this by either using bold colours as base layers, adding splashes of paint as a highlight, and also by adding powdered pigments.
