Scaling up

Scaling up

I have absolutely loved being back in the studio painting and this time I have been experimenting with scale and surface. For the last 3 years I have been mainly painting with cold wax on a smaller scale and on paper. I love working on the paper but you can only scale up so far with work that has to be behind glass, unless of course you fix the paper to the board and well I know that will just go terribly wrong for me.

As if the day...

My time for painting is very limited so when I do get a couple of days completely free I like to scale up and let loose on a large pieces of Arches paper.

I'm not really sure where the inspiration for this painting came from other than the dark autumnal colours; it isn't a scene that I recognise. Sometimes a painting just comes about because of the colours that I want to use and I was really wanting to create a large scale imposing clouds scene.

God's own work in progress

God's own work in progress

Over the last 3 years I have been painting a series called God's Own. They were very much inspired by the beautiful Yorkshire landscape with rolling green hills and dark brooding skies. Most of them were painted with oil on canvas and the largest being 1m x 1m.
