My latest site visit to the North York Moors, this time moving a little further down the Esk Valley and exploring Glaisdale Rigg with its wonderful stone way markers, old packhorse roads, lost pathways and boggy moors!

A lightness of air

I was super excited to receive the invitation by Birch Tree Gallery to respond to a poem by local poet, John Killick. I decided to create a triptych with a limited palette and a textured surface to reflect the poem’s reference to textiles.

I wanted to share with you my latest painting for my North York Moors project and my process creating it as it has been quite a tussle at times as I tried incorporating some new techniques into my work.

This painting will be heading off to the This Diverse Landscape exhibition at the Inspired by... gallery in the North York Moors National Park.

Following my successful exhibition with Studio Vault in 2022 I will be returning later this month with a new collection, just in time for when Emily moves into her larger gallery space.

To celebrate the launch of this collection I have had a limited edition of Tumultuous (pictured) printed which will be available from the start of the exhibition.

The inspiration behind 'Burn Back'

Mist cloaks the moorlands with its hazy tendrils, wisps of smoke twist and curl. A faint smoky scent lingers - reminiscent of nights spent nestled beside an open fire. The time has come again for the heather burn back, initiating its destructive cycle - wreaking havoc on both the environment and its inhabitants.
